MoU Signing Ceremony between Korea Legislation Research Institute and United Nations Research Institute for Social Development

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD, Director Paul Ladd) on February 17 (Fri.) at the meeting room of KLRI located in Sejong to cooperate in research on E.S.G. and sustainable development-related convergence.
 
The UNRISD is within the United Nations which undertakes research on the social aspects of development issues. The UNRISD developed Sustainable Development Performance Indicators (SDPI) in 2022 which is to evaluate the level of substantiality of governments and corporations around the world. 
  
KLRI and the UNRISD plan to share the knowledge and experience obtained during the development of SDPI and also continue working on translation and research necessary for developing the E.S.G. policy and exchange of human resources.
 
At the KLRI’s 1st E.S.G. Colloquium, Yi Il-Cheong, Senior Research Coordinator at the UNRISD presented under the title ‘International Trends of ESG and Korea’s Opportunities: SDPI’ and explained the background of the development of the indicators and simulated the 61 specific indicators. 
  
Researchers from the national research institutes including Korea Institute of Public Finance, Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs,  Korea Research Institute for Human Settlement, Korea Environment Institute attended the colloquium as discussants and held in-depth discussions.
  
President Kye-Hong Kim said, “With this agreement, we hope to strengthen research cooperation with the experts within the E.S.G.-specialized research institution within the UN and to help us in establishing alternatives for the E.S.G. related policies and systems that fit for the domestic situation.”
 
Starting with the Social Value Legislation Research Project in 2019, KLRI has been conducting extensive research for institutionalizing E.S.G. policies from the end of 2020. The name of the research project was switched to E.S.G. Legislation and Evaluation Research Project (I) which plans to hold colloquiums, forums, and conferences to spread the discussion on E.S.G.
