Korea Legislation Research Institute Seeks Energy Transition Policy and Legislation for Low Carbon Society

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Kim Kye-hong) held the 9th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Conference from 9 am Thursday on September 21 at the Four Seasons Hotel Ara Hall (6F) under the theme of "Energy Transition Policy and Legislation for the Transition to Low Carbon Society."
The conference invited global energy legislators from the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, and Indonesia, who are playing a leading role in energy conversion policies and legislation to combat climate change, in order to hear the presentations on energy conversion policy and legislation of each country and derive implications for Korean legislation.
The conference was held with 70 climate and energy law experts from around the world and was divided into six sessions on the subjects of ▲ Germany ▲ USA ▲ UK ▲ Taiwan ▲ Indonesia ▲ Korea energy policy and legislation.
Kim Jong-cheon, Senior Research Fellow of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, gave a presentation on the subject of “Korea's Energy Conversion Policy and Legislation, followed by a heated debate between Yoo Ho, Director of the Ministry of Environment's Climate Strategy Division and Kim Seoung-hoon, Director of the Korea Energy Corporation's Renewable Energy Policy.
In addition, Lee Joon-seo, Senior Research Fellow, Yoon In-sook, Senior Research Fellow, Lee Ki-pyeong, Research Fellow, and Jang Min-young, Research Fellow, of the KLRI, and Lee Jeong-pil, Vice-Director of Research of the Energy Climate Policy Research Institute Jeong Nam-chul, Professor of the College of Law, Sookmyung Women's University, attended as the discussion panel.
KLRI President Kim remarked, “The Asia-Pacific International Conference has been held by the Korea Legislation Research Institute since 2012.” He added, “Today’s event is attended by experts from around the world who study climate change responses, there will be significant implications for promoting energy conversion policies.”
Meanwhile, the Korea Legislation Research Institute contributes to legislating policies on climate change and sustainable development in Korea, such as participating in the drafting process of the Low Carbon Green Growth Framework Act and the Emissions Trading Act.
