KLRI Discusses How to Use Data Science in Legislative Field

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Kim Kye-hong) held a joint conference with the Korean Society of Law and Social Theory on the subject of "Data Science and Legislation" on Friday, 22nd, at Ewha Women’s University Graduate School of Law.
The conference was designed to assess the potential of using data science in the legislative field in the evolutionary context of data automation technology and to explore the direction of research.
The conference was held with 100 researchers including KLRI President Kim and Hwang Seoung-hum, Chairman of the Law and Social Theory Society, and the subjects of data science ▲ legislative potential ▲ legislative utilization were presented and discussed.
In the first part, Lee Yoo-bong, KLRI Senior Research Fellow, presented on “Legal Legislative Use of Social Big Data Analysis,” and Dr. Jun Ji-eun presented the subject of “visualization of the Statute Network.” In the second part, Kyung Woo University professor Shim Woo-min presented the subject of “Data Science and Legislative Practice.”
KLRI President Kim remarked, “Advanced data-based legislative support is essential to making accurate judgments in response to rapidly changing environments and exploding legislative demands.” He added, “To this end, the Korea Legislation Research Institute invited experts in one place to hold an event on the subject of data science and legislation.”
Meanwhile, the Korea Legislation Research Institute is leading the legislative evaluation research as a means for good legislation. It conducts legislative evaluations of current laws and regulations and local government ordinances, and has held conferences with related organizations to discuss the development and practical application of legislative evaluation theory.
