Hosting of the International Conference on “Planning East Asian Peace in the Abyss of Korean-Japanese History Conflict”

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Kim Kye-hong) held an international conference with the Economic and Humanities and Social Studies Research Group and the Japanese Research Institute of Seoul National University under the theme of "Planning East Asian Peace in the Abyss of Korean-Japanese History Conflict“ from 1 pm on Tuesday, at the President's Hotel Brahms Hall.
The conference, designed to analyze changes in the relationship between Korea and Japan and seek solutions to the crisis between the two countries, was attended by 100 international law experts from the United States, Germany, Australia, Japan, and South Korea, including President Kim and Seong Kyeong-ryung, President of the Economic and Humanities and Social Studies Society.
President Seong remarked, “"We are going to explore the prospect of creating a condition of co-prosperity for the foundation of" justice "along with measures to resolve conflicts between Korea and Japan through this academic event," at the opening address.
President Kim said, “Based on the historical background and international situation, more wisdom should be gathered for the two countries to develop into a developmental relationship with each other,” at the following welcome speech.
Academic events were divided into two sessions, with presentations and discussions under the theme of “Korea-Japan Historical Conflict and East Asian International Society,” and “Conditions and Prospects for Rebuilding the Korean Peninsula-Japan Relations.”In Session 1, Professor Lauren Richardson of the Australian Institute of Laws presented under the theme of "Dissolution of the 1965 System," and Kentucky University Professor Takekenaka Akiko gave a presentation on the issue of “Historical Reconciliation in East Asia and War Memory in Japan.” Following the presentation, Totsuka Etsuro, Professor of University of Ryukyu, discussed the subject of “the issue of forced mobilization and international law in Japan – can the peace treaty destroy human rights?”
In session 2, there were heated discussions on the definition of justice time, allowable time for past misconduct, the billing agreement and criticism of Japan's "resolution of the past", the 1965 regime, and the normalization of North Korea-North Korea relations. Participants in each session were Kang Hyun-chul, KLRI Senior Research Fellow, Lee Yong-il, Ambassador for International Relations of Sejong City, and Professor Park Tae-kyoon of Seoul National University.
