The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Yeong-soo Han) co-hosted an international academic conference with GGGI on “Legal and Technological Challenges for Global Supply Chain Responses to Strengthen Industrial Competitiveness” at the GGGI conference room starting at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 27th.

This conference was organized to comprehensively diagnose key trends in global supply chain restructuring from the perspectives of industrial ecosystems, technology, international cooperation, and legal systems, and to explore legal and policy response strategies for enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of K-industry.

The conference commenced with opening remarks by Yeong-soo Han, President of the KLRI, and a welcome address by Sang-hyup Kim, Secretary General of GGGI, followed by four presentations and discussions.

Presentations were given on "China's Policy Trends for Implementing Green Supply Chains and Environmental Industry Ecosystem Strategies," "The EU's Technology Strategy for Securing Sustainable Supply Chains," and "International Cooperation Strategies for Global Supply Chain Response and Green Growth," by speakers including the Vice Dean of the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, China and a Project Officer from the European Commission.

As the final presenter, Min-ji Han, Associate Research Fellow at the KLRI, continued the lively discussion with her presentation titled "Legal Strategy for Global Supply Chain Response – Focusing on the Digital Product Passport."

Associate Research Fellow Han explained that the Digital Product Passport (DPP), currently spreading primarily in the EU, will function as a core tool for new supply chain norms. She presented the impact this normative shift will have on domestic industry and legal systems, and the necessity for preemptive response strategies.

Yeong-soo Han, President of the KLRI, stated, “Based on today's discussion, we will develop legislative strategies that harmonize industrial competitiveness and sustainability, and actively pursue international cooperation networks with key institutions, including GGGI.” He added, “Through this, we will solidify the legislative foundation to ensure Korea becomes a leading participant and designer of international norms, rather than a passive recipient.”

Meanwhile, the Korea Legislation Research Institute is conducting a Global Legislation Strategy Research Project to study policy and legislation trends in international organizations and major countries, aligning with government policy formulation and legislation revision directions to address global issues.
