KLRI Discusses Forestry Regulations at 23rd Regulatory Innovation Legislation Forum

The Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Yeong-soo Han) held its 23rd Regulatory Innovation Legislation Forum on the theme of "Forestry Regulatory Innovation" at the Uiam Hall of the Bears Hotel in Chuncheon at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 20.
  
The Regulatory Innovation Legislation Forum is a platform where relevant experts gather to discuss key regulatory innovation legislation issues. This forum was organized to explore efficient legislative and policy measures in the forestry sector.
  
Prior to the main presentations, Se-hoon Park, Team Leader of the Regulatory Reform and Financing Legislation Team at the KLRI, introduced the forum's purpose and background, sharing key discussions and outcomes from previous sessions.
  
Next, Byeong-am Choi, Advisor at Kim & Chang Law Firm (former head of the Korea Forest Service), delivered the first presentation on "Future-Oriented Development Plans for Forest Regulations." Advisor Choi emphasized the connection between mountainous land use and national development, highlighted issues with forest regulations, and proposed strategies for utilizing mountainous land to address population decline and regional depopulation.
  
Next, Professor Jeong-gi Choi of the Department of Forest Science at Kangwon National University continued the presentations with his topic, "Forest Management and Regulatory Innovation Measures for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province."
  
Professor Choi introduced the forest management vision for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and the forest special provisions identified thus far. He presented plans for regional revitalization and fostering future forest industries, including the introduction of Forest Management Promotion Districts and Forestry/Mountain Village Promotion Clusters.
  
The comprehensive discussion featured Professor Emeritus In-hwa Choi from the Department of Forest Science at Kangwon National University, Senior Research Fellow Hwan-yong Choi from the KLRI, Director Yun-hee Jeong of the Regional and Urban Research Division at the Gangwon Institute, and Dr. Kwan-haeng Lee from the Graduate School of Law at Kangwon National University, adding depth to the lively debate.
  
Meanwhile, the Regulatory Reform and Financing Legislation Team at the KLRI operates practical, field-centered forums under the goal of "Establishing a Field-Centered Regulatory Innovation Process." These forums share the challenges faced by key industries in each regional hub and seek improvement measures for regulatory issues.
