KLRI Holds Joint Academic Conference on ‘Climate Change-Energy-Environment Nexus’

The Korea Legislation Research Institute held an academic conference on August 27 and 28 jointly with the Korea Environmental Economics Association, the National Institute of Ecology, and the Korea Environment Institute, with the theme of ‘Climate Change-Energy-Environment Nexus’ at the seminar room of the National Institute of Ecology.

The conference served as a venue for understanding the nature of environmental and energy issues such as utilization of new and renewable energy, reduction of fine particulate matter, and conservation of natural resources, and for discussing possible measures to bolster sustainable national competitiveness.

The conference consisted of two parts, where participants had various presentations and discussions on the themes of ▲ Methods of Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Policy Issues ▲ Ecology Conservation: Values and Policies ▲ New and Renewable Energy, and Environment and ▲ Current Status of Fine Particulate Matter and Countermeasures.

The KLRI participated in Session B-2 under the theme of ‘New and Renewable Energy, and Environment’, where discussions centered on ‘Offshore Wind Power Generation and Its Legal Issues’, ‘Research on the Paris Agreement’s Article 6 Market Mechanisms’ and ‘The Ripple Effect of Environmental Education’. KLRI Senior Research Fellow Hyun Dae-ho, Research Fellow Kim Eun-jun, and Associate Research Fellows Hong Seong-min and Lee Cheon-gee participated in presentations and discussions.

KLRI President Rhee Ik-hyeon said “It is crucial to conduct research and to establish theories on policy, institutional and economic measures for environment and energy.” He added, “I hope this academic conference serves as a venue for proposing various opinions, which will contribute to Korea’s sustainable development in the fields of climate change, environment and energy.”

The KLRI has been contributing to legislating  policies on climate change and sustainable development of Korea, and in line with such effort, its Climate Change Law Research Team has participated in the legislative processes of the Framework Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth and the Act on the Allocation and Trading of Greenhouse-Gas Emission Permits.
