Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Kye-Hong Kim) held the 6th Social Value Legislation Forum under the theme of "Using E.S.G. to Create Social Value" on March 26 (Friday) at the Namsan 5 at Grand Hyatt Seoul.

 

With Professor Soo-Geun Oh of Ewha Womans University moderating the Forum, Professor Eun-Sun Lee, Professor Dong-Kyu Park and Dr. Yoon-Je Jang were present as speaker and experts from various legal fields including Constitution, International Law, Administrative Law, Commercial Law and Tax Law also attended for the discussion.

 

Since the 1st Social Value Legislation Forum under the theme of “Implementation of Social Value Evaluation Methods - Focusing on Public Institutions” on September 2019, there has been total 6 Forums that have discussed as to the legislation of social value. Following after the previous Forums that sought a direction for social value legislation and the establishment of a E.S.G. quantification/measurement system, the March Forum discussed on ways to identify the status and the use of E.S.G. for creating social value, E.S.G. indexes for the public and private sectors, and ways to improve the existing legal frameworks in relation to E.S.G. It provided a meaningful time of laying the foundation for E.S.G. legislation. 

 

The Social Value Legislation team hosting the Forum said, “The discussion on E.S.G. has been expanded and shifted from voluntary participation and activities of the private sector to governmental official guidelines and legislation after the spread of COVID-19. We believe that this Forum would provide us with an opportunity to get a picture of domestic and overseas trends of E.S.G. discussions and thus coming up with a strategy of placing E.S.G. in a legal framework that fits to the Korean environment.”
