Joint Academic Conference between Korea Legislation Research Institute and Korean Sociology of Law Association

Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Kye-Hong Kim) co-hosted a joint academic conference with Korean Sociology of Law Association on May 7 (Fri., at 2pm) under the theme of “The Past, Present, and Future of Legal Consciousness of the Korean Society – with a Focus on 2019 National Legal Consciousness Survey.” The event was held virtually using a video conference system to prevent the spread of COVID-19, in which more than ten prominent scholars and researchers of Korean Sociology of Law participated.
 
The conference was designed to seek a direction of the rule of law in Korea through in-depth discussion on legal consciousness with a focus on the National Legal Consciousness Survey carried out in 2019, in amid of the recent Korean society where the credibility of law have been challenged and questioned from various perspectives.
 
The event had three speakers with three sub-themes: Hyun-Sook Cha KLRI’s Director-General of the Department of Future Legislation Project presented on the Methodology and Key Questionnaires of the National Legal Consciousness Survey; Cheon-Woong Park, Professor at Jeonbuk University presented on the Key Factors Influencing Court’s Credibility: A Focus on the 2019 National Legal Consciousness Survey; and finally, Yoo-Bong Lee, Senior Research Fellow at KLRI presented on Korean Legal Consciousness–Changes and Improvement of Legal Consciousness Survey. Each presentation was followed by a discussion session with two experts.
 
Korea Legislation Research Institute and Korean Sociology of Law Association have continued a close cooperative relationship on legal consciousness research including a joint conference on the History and Achievement of Korean Legal Consciousness Survey in 2009. The two organizations would continue their cooperative relationship to research on changes of legal consciousness of the Korean society and the future direction of the rule of law based on the discussion at this Joint Conference. 
 
Korea Legislation Research Institute has been conducting research on National Legal Consciousness Survey since 1991 in order to provide basic statistical data for the development of indicators measuring national legal consciousness and the implementation of the rule of law.
