KLRI held the 18th Unification Law Forum

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) held the 18th Unification Law Forum on Sept. 16 (Thur., at 11am) at the Mozart Hall on the President Hotel (on the 31st fl.) under the theme of ‘The Legislative Direction of the Establishment of Peace Regime on the Korean Peninsula.’
The forum was designed to discuss legal issues that would be in need of being discussed in order to transform the hostile relations on the Korean Peninsula into a post-war system and a peace regime. Approximately 40 experts on North Korea and Unification Legislation from home and abroad attended and made presentations and discussion.
“Unification and peace of the Korean Peninsula can be secured its stability and substantiality in legislation only after the advancement in the relations between North Korea and the US is progressed,” said KLRI President Kim. “Let’s discuss what legislative issues may arise in the course of forging into a perpetual peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.”
The forum was consisted of a presentation session and a discussion session. Emeritus Professor Jang-Hee Lee (Graduate School of Law at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) made a presentation where he followed the track of historical changes in the relations between South and North Korea since it division and looked into a possibility of establishing a peace regime.
KLRI has been hosting the Unification Law Forum since 2016 to enhance its ability to respond to issues in the unification legislation and contribute to its development through in-depth exchange of opinions. As of 2021, the Forum became quarterly. Previous speakers of the Forum include former Unification Minister Yeon-Chul Kim, Chairman of Gaeseong Industrial District Foundation Jin-Hyang Kim, and Deputy Dean of the Far Eastern Federal University of Russia Natalia Prisekina.
