The 49th Legislative Policy Forum was held with the honorable guest speaker Seung-Woo Sohn, the President of the Korea Intellectual Property Institute

The Korea Legal Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) held the 49th Legislative Policy Forum under the theme of “Growth Strategy and Solution in the New Economic Era”, inviting Seung-Woo Sohn, President of the Korean Institute of the Intellectual Property at the conference room of the Korea Legal Research Institute on May 24 (Tue. at 3pm).
In his presentation, President Seung-Woo Sohn mainly discussed ▲ changes in the global environment and the advent of the New Security, ▲ U.S.-China rivalry for the global hegemony and technology blocking, ▲ implications of Japan’s Economic Security Law, ▲ reorganization of GVC and intellectual property issues, ▲ economic security concept and methodology as a growth strategy ▲ economic security administration and policy implementation system.
In particular, President Seung-Woo Sohn stressed that Korea should improve the cross-ministerial R&D road map to gain the upper hand in the competition for technological hegemony centered on powerful countries and establish R&D investment strategies to secure strategic hidden technologies that powerful countries do not have. He also spoke the importance of “information power” and “executive power” to establish investment strategies for promising technologies and set the direction of economic security.
QnA session was followed the presentation, in which participants vigorously discussed on the scope of economic security, supplementary points in the current law, and points to be considered in future legislation.
Meanwhile, the Korea Legal Research Institute is regularly hosting a Legislative Policy Forum as a place where the experts from various fields can share legislative achievements and discover new legislative tasks. So far, various honored guests, including the former National Assembly Speaker Sye-Kyun Jung, Minister of Food and Drug Safety Kang-Rip Kim, the former Senior Presidential Secretary for Social Affairs Yeon-Myung Kim, and the Minister of Government Legislation Kang-Seop Lee, participated in the previous forums as speaker.
