KLRI held the ‘1st ESG Legislation Forum’

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) and  Seoul Bar Association (SBA, Chairman Jeong-Wook Kim) jointly held the 1st ESG Legislation Forum under the theme of “Inauguration of the New Government and the Prospect of ESG Legalization” on March 24th (Thu, 2 p.m.) 
 
ESG Legislation Forum was designed to sustain the discourse on systematic ESG including Green Taxonomy and Social Taxonomy which were announced by EU, and this 1st forum was organized to examine various legal issues seeking for measures on ESG institutionalization in Korea, ahead of the launch of the new government.
 
The event, which started with the opening speech of Kye-Hong Kim, KLRI’s President and a congratulatory speech by Jeong-Wook Kim, Chairman of SBA, was held with speeches and discussions served by Soo-Geun Oh, the Emeritus Professor as a chairman.
 
The first speaker, Kyung-Hoon Chun, Professor of Seoul National University remarked “ESG Disclosure Standard and Evaluation Standard: Roles and Limitations of Law and the Government”. He stressed that standard of disclosure, reporting, evaluation and model standard are different in function, so the degree  of intervention of law and the government should be adapted by these differences.
 
Continuously, Sung-Taek Lim, Chief Attorney of JIPYONG LLC and Il-Mo Yang, Professor of Sangji University gave a speech separately on “ESG Era, Role of Law and Lawyer,” and “ESG Utilization to Create Social Value: Analysis and Implications on ESG Evaluation Cases of Domestic Companies“
 
In the following discussion, Yu-Kyong Choe, Team leader of Social Value Legislation Team at KLRI, along with 10 experts had an in-depth discussion on ESG, BHR, measures to establish a desirable ESG information infrastructure, role of lawyers and the new government, etc.
