Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) held a Seminar on the Establishment of Law Academic Archiveat KLRI’S library on January 11 (Wed).

In order to secure the library’s sustainable collection capacity and build a long-term data conservation system through digital transition, as well as establish a digital research information infrastructure for core materials of the library, KLRI has been proceeding with the “Project on Establishment of Law Academic Archive” since 2022.

Set up the Digital Preservation Lab in its library, KLRI has transformed itself to be prepared for digital transition by introducing “Robotic Book Scanner” which is the sixth introduction among domestic institutions. KLRI has been operating a law library specialized in public law and more than 81% of the total books are foreign materials from Germany, Japan, United Kingdom and United States, while having a host of the nation’s only collected books in the field of law.

“Robotic Book Scanner” is a digital equipment exclusively for books and it is able to convert 1,800 to 2,300 pages into digital data in an hour.

Meanwhile, as the only national legislative research institute in Korea, KLRI collects, maintains and manages domestic and foreign legal data necessary to attain the objective of establishing a national legislative policy, while possessing 47,000 books, including specialized legal data.
