Korean Legislation Research Institute Holds First Global Legal Forum

On Monday, February 26th, at 3:00 p.m., the Korean Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Yeong-soo Han) hosted the first Global Legal Forum on the theme of 'Global Trends and Future Challenges in Attracting Foreign Talent.' The forum took place in the Smart Conference Room of the Korean Legislation Research Institute.
  
The Global Legal Forum is established to continuously explore global legal issues and to deepen and disseminate these issues by inviting practitioners and experts in related fields to present and participate in discussions.
  
During this forum, presentations and discussions were led by Professor Yoshihiro from Ritsumeikan University, Professor Yuka from Meiji University, and Professor Choi Cheol-young from the Department of Law at Daegu University.
  
Professor Yoshihiro's presentation focused on 'Trends and Challenges in Attracting Foreign Talent to Japan: From an Administrative Law Perspective,' discussing Japan's labor shortage issues and the situation of attracting foreign talent, along with key points for improvement in attracting foreign talent to Japan. Professor Yuka then presented on 'Trends and Challenges in Attracting Foreign Talent to Japan: From a Tax Law Perspective,' highlighting the Japanese government's response to attracting foreign talent and tax measures to promote the activities of foreign talent. Finally, Professor Choi Cheol-young discussed 'Exploring New Directions in Immigration-Related Legislation for Attracting Foreign Talent,' emphasizing the need and background for exploring new immigration legislation in Korean society and proposing new directions for immigration legislation.
  
Following the expert presentations, a comprehensive discussion took place with panelists including Professor Kim Young-soo from Keimyung University, Professor Choi Cheol-ho from Cheongju University, Research Fellow Choi Seo-ri from the Institute for Immigration Policy, and Dr. Kim Kyung-deok from Nagoya University in Japan. From the Korean Legislation Research Institute, Senior Research Fellows Park Kwang-dong and Choi Hwan-yong, along with Yoon In-sook, Team Leader of the Global Legal Strategy Team, participated.
  
The Korean Legislation Research Institute continues to actively explore global legal issues and facilitate research exchanges. In 2023, the institute hosted a Global Legal Forum on topics such as space, healthcare, food crises, and plastic pollution, and plans to continue exploring and operating various global agenda topics in 2024.
