The Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI), led by President Han Young-soo, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, represented by Governor Oh Young-hoon, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Thursday, June 20, at 11:00 AM at the KLRI’s conference room in Sejong. The ceremony was attended by President Han Young-soo, Governor Oh Young-hoon, and officials from both organizations.

This agreement was initiated to promote collaboration between Jeju, Korea's first special self-governing province, and the KLRI, the country’s only national research institute specializing in legislative studies. The partnership aims to contribute to the advancement of self-governance and autonomous legislative systems.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will actively cooperate in various areas, including:

Improving and revising the Jeju Special Act and other related legislation under the jurisdiction of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
Identifying and researching joint agendas and legal and institutional improvement measures for the development of the special self-governing system
Establishing a collaborative environment with academic and research organizations in Jeju
KLRI President Han Young-soo expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It is meaningful to sign this MOU with Jeju, Korea’s first special self-governing province. Based on our accumulated research experience in areas such as local autonomy law, local finance legislation, and ordinance legislative evaluation, we will actively cooperate with Jeju to support the development of local government laws and systems.”

Meanwhile, the KLRI recently signed an MOU with Jeju National University to facilitate research and academic exchange for the development of legislative systems related to self-governance.
