Joint Conference between KLRI and NARS

Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Kye-Hong Kim) held a joint academic conference with the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) under the theme of ‘Legislative Impact Assessment for Better Legislation’ at Best Western Plus Hotel Sejong (Crystal Hall, at 2pm) on June 3 (Thur.).
 
The conference was organized in response to internal and external perceptions that legislation is in need and legislative impact analysis is needed for better legislation in a diverse and complex modern society. Ten experts from related fields participated in presentations and discussions of the conference.
 
The conference particularly drew up measures for the efficient legislative impact of Korea by examining in-depth information on overseas cases, a way to introduce to Korea, and legislative impact analysis reflecting public opinions.  
 
In the first session with the subject of ‘Ex-Ante Legislative Impact Assessment – Overseas Cases and Way to Introduce Domestically, NARS researcher Jin-Young Jeon and Man-Woo Lee presented on overseas cases of E-ante legislative impact assessment and a way to introduce legislative impact assessment to Korea, respectively. Discussion was followed the presentations where KLRI Senior Research Fellow Chae-Ri Kwon, Professor Hak-Sun Jeon (Korea University of Foreign Studies), and Directorate-General Chul-Ho Rye (Ministry of Government Legislation) participated. 
 
In the second session with the subject of Legislative Policy Analysis Reflecting Public opinions, KLRI Senior Research Fellow Sung-Min Hong and Kyung-Ho Choi presented on the result and cases of public hearing on legislative analysis. Discussion was followed the presentations where NARS researcher Yoon-Jung Jeon, Professor Bo-Guk Seo (Chungnam University), and Senior Researcher Sun-Young Park (Korea Women's Development Institute) participated. 
 
KLRI has carried out research on legislative evaluation for 15 years to contribute to the institutionalization of legislative evaluation based on experiences and know-how of experts in the field, providing effective alternatives for the development of legislative policies and legislative culture.
 
Taking this joint conference as opportunity, KLRI will continue boosting in-depth discussion among experts in the legislative field and establish a continuous research network. The conference book can be found on the Database page under Publication at the KLRI website.
