Joint Conference between KLRI and Local Governments Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) held an academic conference under the theme of ‘Instruments for Stronger Local Carbon Neutral Capability’ jointly with Local Governments Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition (hereinafter referred to as LGC) at the Kensington Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul (at Central Park on the 15th fl. at 2 p.m.) on Sept. 23 (Thur.). 
 
The event was planned by KLRI and LGC in order to have an in-depth discussion with the stakeholders of National Assembly and the central government on the improvement and establishment of carbon neutral-related instruments by sharing the carbon neutral status of the local governments.  
 
Speakers at the conference made insightful and informative presentations on topics of ‘The Change from Local Energy Center to Carbon-Neutral Support Center (Hong Jang Kim, Mayor of Dangjin); Proposal on 2050 Carbon-Neutral Green Growth Committee (Seong-Soo Kim, Mayor of Jeonju); The Establishment of Carbon-Neutral Plan of Hwasung City and the Barriers to its implementation (Chul-Mo Seo, Mayor of Hawsung); Main Tasks of Local Governments in the Path of Going to Carbon-Neutral (Jae-Joon Lee, Mayor of Goyang); Strategy and Direction to Support Local Carbon-Neutral Strategy (Seong-Jun Lee, Manager of Carbon-Neutral TFT at Ministry of Environments); Challenges at Local Level in Making By-Law on Climate Crisis Response (Eun-Hye Jang, KLRI Climate Change Legislation Team Manager). 
The following discussion session was a place to share thoughts on the ways to strength carbon-neutral capability at a local level.

Meanwhile, KLRI completed a Memorandum of Understanding with LGC on June 11 to carry out active research works on local strategies for carbon neutrality and energy transition at a local level.
