KLRI-KCLA held ‘2021 Korean Constitutional Scholars Conference’

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) held the 2021 Korean Constitutional Scholars Conference  under the theme of “The New Normal Era and the Future of the Constitution” at the LW Convention of Brownstone Seoul (on 3rd fl.) on October 1 (Fri.).
 
The conference co-hosted by Korean Constitutional Law Association (KCLA, Chairman Ji-Bong Lim) was designed to examine the changes in the Constitutions that other countries around the world have been experiencing and contemplate on a direction for the Korean Constitution in the new normal era after the COVID-19 pandemic. 
 
The conference had 35 presentations and discussion with Korean constitutional scholars and researchers in seven breakout sessions of The New Normal Era and Democracy; The New Normal Era and Separation of Powers; The New Normal Era and the Economy, Finance, and the Environment; The New Normal Era and New Human Rights; Constitutional Revision for The New Normal Era; Interpretation of the Constitution and Diversity; and Freedom of Expression and Social Rights.
 
Each breakout session had informative presentations and passionate discussion on diverse subjects including ‘big data and electronic democracy’, ‘conversion of power in response to national crisis’, ‘introduction of budget on greenhouse gas reduction cognition’, and ‘media platform and the freedom of expression.’
 
The presenters of the breakout sessions included Jong-Soo Lee (Professor at Yonsei University), Gun-Bo Kwon (Professor at Ajou University), Jun-Seo Lee (KLRI Senior researcher), and Ji-Seong Ryu (KLR Senior Research Fellow). Discussants included So-Young Cho (Professor at Pusan National University), Woo-Young Lee (Professor at Seoul National University), Ju-Yeol Jeon (KLRI Senior Research Fellow), Min-Sun Jang (KLRI Senior Research Fellow), Hyun Sohn (KLRI Senior Research Fellow) and Tae-Gun Yang (KLRI Senior Research Fellow). 
 
KLRI President Kim said, “Every topic covered in this conference is significant and important in the course of laying the foundation of Korea’s Constitution that is the prop of the nation in the time of great transformation. The role of the KLRI is to foresee changes in the future society and proposes a direction for legislative development in advance. Thus, this conference will be a place where researchers and scholars get involved in a discussion on future constitutional amendment and a direction of legislative development.”
