KLRI held the 9th Asian Legislative Experts Symposium (ALES)

The 9th Asian Legislative Experts Symposium (ALES) was co-hosted by Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) and Ministry of Government Legislation (MOLEG, Minister Kang-Seop Lee) under the theme of Legislative Administration - The Status and Way of Cooperation in Asia at the Grand Ballroom 2 of JW Marriott Hotel Seoul (5fl.) on Oct. 27. 
 
The Symposium received invited guests including Chairman of Korea Development Institute Jang-Pyo Hong, Vietnamese Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long and legal experts of six countries namely Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan as well as the two co-hosts KLRI president Kye-Hong Kim and Minister of MOLEG Kang-Seong Lee. Starting with the keynote speech by Hak-Soo Ko, Professor of Seoul National University, two presentation sessions followed. 
 
The first session under the sub-theme of the Current Status of Legislative Administration of Asian Countries and the Future Direction had two presentations; The Current Status of Legislative Administration of Korea and its Best Practice and The Current Status of Legislative Administration of Asian Countries and their Best Practices. 
 
The second session was held under the sub-theme of the Way of Cooperation for Mutual Improvement in Legislative Administration in Asia. The presenter, KLRI Senior Research Fellow Ji-Yeon Choi, spoke on the Status Quo of Legislative Administration of Asian Countries and the Way of Cooperation and Improvement. Following after, discussants including Phalthy Hap, Professor of Royal University of Law and Economy in Cambodia and Narun Popattanachai at Thailand’s Office of Cabinet of the State contributed to active discussion. 
 
The ALES has been held since 2013 to share legislative development and experiences of Asian countries and to seek a way of improving legislation. The Symposium has looked into various topics including Korean and Eurasian IT legislation, effective ASEAN transportation system, the development of Smart city, infectious disease legislation and other interesting subjects and strengthened the network with other Asian countries and legislative cooperation.
