KLRI held the 2022 Common Resource (Commons) Joint Academic Conference and the 8th Social Value Legislation Forum

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) held 『2022 Joint Academic Conference on Common Resource (Commons) and Social Value Legislation Forum』 under the theme of “Institutionalization of Commons focusing on Commoning of Space” at Jeju University from September 28th to 30th (Wed~Fri).
 
The event, which was jointly held with relevant research institute including Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS), Architecture & Urban Research Institute (AURI), Asia Center of Seoul National University, and Research Center on the Commons and Sustainable Society of Jeju National University, was organized to examine major performance of Commons in Korea and seek implications for the institutionalization. The event was also broadcasted online.
 
The event was proceeded in the period of 2 nights and 3 days,on the topic of▲ On-site visit to Commons in Jeju island, ▲The 8th Social Value Legislative Forum, ▲ Joint academic conference of 5 institutions, ▲ Experts’ meeting. On the first day, the 8th Social Value Legislative Forum was held under the theme of “Challenges of Law in Transition Society: Commons and Social Value.” Gye-Soo Lee, Professor of Law School at Konkuk University gave a speech on “Role of Law in institutionalization of Commons: Focusing on Public Law and Urban Planning Act”, and Hyun-Soo Kang, President of KRIHS, Young-Bum Reigh, President of AURI and panels from the five institutions had a discussion in free manner. On the 2nd day of the event (Thu), the joint academic conference was held under the theme of “Institutionalization of Commons Focusing on Commoning of Space”, and the experts’ meeting on “ Challenges in Institutionalization of Commons and Resolution” was held on the last day.
 
KLRI’s President, Kye-Hong Kim remarked “Commons is emerging as a solution of problems prevalent in society, such as economic disparity, social alienation and neglect”, and stressed that Commons has not yet been established as a legal concept, but it is surely the innovative approach which provides future society with a clue to resolve the issues of housing rights.
 
Korea Legislation Research Institute has been conducting research to seek legislative institutionalization measures to create and maximize the various value which is necessary for our society.
