KLRI held the 10th Asian Legislative Experts Symposium

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) and Ministry of Government Legislation (MGL, President Wan-Kyu-Lee) jointly held the 10th Asian Legislative Experts Symposium (ALES) under the theme of “Digital Era, Trends and Development Scheme of Legislative Information System in Asian Countries” at Fairmont Ambassador on September 29 (Thu, 2 p.m.). ALES is a place where legal experts from Asian countries are invited to share superior legislative cases and discuss development plans and has been hosted by KLRI and MGL since 2013.
The event, which was attended by Kye-Hong Kim, KLRI’s President, Wan-Kyu Lee, President of MGL, Jong-Sung Hwang National Information Society Agency (NIA), Edward Omar Syarif Hiariez, Vice Minister of Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Indonesia and 200 Asian legislative experts, was proceeded in overall 2 sessions on ▲ Building status of digital legislative system in Asian countries, ▲ Plans to promote digital legislative cooperation and human exchange between Korea and Asian countries.
Session 1, moderated by Hyun-Cheol Kang, KLRI’s Vice President, was presented on ▲ Introduction of the government’s legislative system, ▲ Provision of understandable legal information at a glance, ▲ Digitalization of legislative information in Thailand, ▲ Digital legislative system cases in Taiwan.
In Session 2 which was moderated by Dae-In Kim, Professor of Law School at Ehwa Woman University. a heated discussion was held on ▲ Status of legal information system in major countries, ▲ Digitalization of legislative process in Indonesia, ▲ Digital legal system in Vietnam: current status and prospect. Kwang-Dong Park, Senior Research Fellow at KLRI, Seung-Taek Jung Secretary of MGL along with foreign government officials and researchers in Thailand, Taiwan, Mongolia, and Vietnam attended the presentation.
KLRI’s President, Kye-Hong Kim remarked “For over a decade, we have been holding the ALES as a venue to enhance understanding of legislation which is the combination of the major policies in Asian countries, and seek legislative measures to tackle varied socio-economic issues.
Meanwhile, KLRI has been operating Asia Legal Information Network (ALIN) with its aim for strengthening multilateral cooperation in legislative information exchange among Asian countries, and making its efforts in overseas exchange cooperation including K-Law Academy course for overseas governments and legal practitioners in research institutions.
