KLRI, publishes a "Law Translation Guideline" and Statutes of the Republic of Korea in English and Chinese

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) recently published a "Law Translation Guideline" which serves as a guide to provide consistent English laws by enhancing the efficiency of legal translation and minimizing the diversity of translation.
The Legal Translation Guideline, made by overall 12 experts, including U.S. lawyers and professors of the graduate school of interpretation and translation, suggests the direction and principles of legal translation and find ways to seek harmony with overseas legislative guidelines as well as maintain its own characteristics of the domestic law.
In particular, the guideline contains the know-how accumulated during 30 years of legal translation by KLRI, such as the use of the present tense, active sentences, and non-discriminatory expressions, and explain other suitable uses such as auxiliary verbs, connectors, and related companies.
Along with the guideline, KLRI published Statutes of the Republic of Korea in English and Chinese respectively. The English version contains the contents of major Korean laws in English that have been provided online by KLRI since 2010, and includes 11 laws in the field of six areas, including the Constitution, Administrative Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Commercial Law, and Litigation Law.
Statues of the Republic of Korea in Chinese also includes 6 fields and 11 laws in total and published commemorating the 30th anniversary of establishing Korea-China diplomatic relations.
Kye-Hong Kim, KLRI’s President remarked, “As Korea's global presence grows, the demand for Korean law is also increasing, so it is certainly important to provide high-quality legal translation services is more important."
Meanwhile, KLRI has been providing Korean laws in Chinese on its website along with about 2,300 Korean laws in English since 1992 to promote Korean laws globally. In addition, three publications including legal translation guideline are available from the KLRI’s website (www.klri.re.kr).
