KLRI Held the 4th Global Legislative Forum on Climate Change

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Kye-Hong Kim) held the 4th Global Forum on Climate Change Law and Institutions under the theme of “Outcomes and Prospects of COP27” with Center for Global Climate and Marine Governance affiliated with Global Research Institute of Korea University(CGCMG) and The Korean Society of Climate Change Research(KSCC) at International Hall of the Korea University on November 24th (Thu, 2p.m.).

The forum discussed the major agendas of COP 27 which was held on November 6, in Sharm el-Sheikh of Egypt such as phased reduction of coal power generation, developing countries’ loss and damage caused by climate change and implementation of the countries concerned, finding out future direction to tackle the climate change.

Starting with the opening speech of Suh-Yong Chung, President of Center for Climate and Sustainable Development Law and Policy(CSDLAP) as well as serving as a professor of Korea University, the forum was proceeded with overall two sessions and discussion.

KLRI’s President, Kye-Hong Kim remarked, “Korea has an accountability to suggest and realize concrete cooperation schemes for implementing plans to tackle the climate change,” and stressed “Today’s forum would serve a venue for sharing experience and knowledge of experts in COP27 as well as seeking legislative exchange and cooperation to cope with the climate change.

Meanwhile, KLRI has been holding Global Forum on Climate Change Law and Institutions 4 times this year, in order to discuss legislative measures to tackle the climate change and suggest future-oriented visions for carbon-free society and this forum is the last one of the year.

Last forums were held under the theme of ”The Article 6 of Paris Agreement and Overseas Reduction for NDC implementation“ in May, ”Current Status and Issues of Green ODA“ in July and ”Korea-U.S. Cooperation on Climate Change“ in October respectively.

KLRI has been leading active discussions in the field of legislation on the latest issues related to climate change through Global Forum on Climate Change Law and Institutions.
