KLRI held the 3rd Global Legal Forum

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Yeongsoo Han) held the 3rd Global Legal Forum under the theme of ‘Global Trends and Tasks for Food Crisis’ in the KLRI’s Smart Conference Room at 1:30 p.m. on August 17 (Thur.). The Global Legal Forum invites practitioners and experts in the relevant fields to discover global legal issues and build a forum with presentation and discussion. 
  
With the Professor Si-jin Oh at Kangwon National University as moderator, the forum had President Jin-kyo Seo of the GS&J Institute and Jong-in Kim, head of Agriculture Economic Research Department of Korea Rural Economic Institute as presenters. 
  
President Seo presented the theme of Food Security Trend in International Organizations and Implications. He spoke about Korea’s food security situation and suggested solutions to address this. He pointed out that raising self-sufficiency alone cannot solve the problem when overseas supply chains are suspended, and emphasized the need for domestic storage system for essential agricultural and livestock products.
 
Next presenter Jong-in Kim spoke on the Current Food Security Policy and Future Tasks. He presented the direction of improving the countermeasure system based on the analysis of international grain market trends.  
 
He explained the need for improving the size and scope of stockpiles of grains in order to prepare for abnormal climate issues, and emphasized the need for putting more efforts in easing structural excesses of rice and increase self-sufficiency of food. 
 
The discussion session was followed after the two presentations. Discussants were Professor Eun-jin Kim at Wonkwang University's School of Law, KLRI researchers Ji-yeon Choi and Ki-sun Park,   Director Sang-moon Byun at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Chairman Joon-won Lee of the FAO Korea Association, and Senior Researcher Hyeong-gon Jeong at the Japan and East Asia Team of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy.
  
Meanwhile, KLRI continues in discovering global legal issues and preparing opportunities for research exchange. KLRI held Global Legal Forums on space and public health in this year.
