KLRI held a Joint Conference on Reg Tech with Gyeongin National University of Education’s Legislative Studies Center

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Yeongsoo Han) held a joint academic conference with the Gyeongin National University of Education’s Legislative Studies Center under the theme of Data-Based Regulatory Innovation and Legislative Studies at the convention room (7fl.) of the Administration building of the Gyeongin National University of Education's Gyeonggi Campus at 2 p.m. on September 21 (Thurs.).  
 
Under the theme of Reg Tech being used in industrial sites, this conference was designed to examine data-based regulatory analysis and potentials of innovation and discuss ways to develop them. Reg Tech is a compound word of regulation and technology, which refers to a technology combined with IT which helps regulatory management.
  
The conference was divided into two sessions under the themes of ▲ Data-Based Regulatory Innovation and ▲ Reg Tech Data-Based Regulatory Innovation and Legislation. 
  
Session 1 had two presenters; CODIT CEO Ji-eun Jeong presented on the theme of ‘Technology for Regulatory Law Data Analysis and Its Utilization,’ and Professor Hye-jin Kim at Sungkyunkwan University presented on the topic of ‘General Principles of Legal Tech and Regulation on New Technology.’
 
Discussants of Session 1 were  Joon-hwa Chung, researcher at National Assembly Research Service, Seung-hye Han, researcher at Korea Internet Business Association's Digital Economy Research Institute, and KLRI Senior Researcher Hyun-sook Cha. 
 
Session 2 on ‘Data-Based Regulatory Innovation and Legislation’ had two presenters including  Sang-pil Yoon, Professor at Korea University and Do-seung Kim Professor at Mokpo National University. They spoke under the themes of The Current Status and Direction of Development of Guvtech in the Public Sector and Legislative Measures for Data-Based Regulatory Innovation respectively.
 
Discussants of Session 2 were Woo-chul Park, lawyer of Naver, Hye-jung Kim, visiting researcher at KLRI, and Ji-hwan Park, lawyer at law firm Innovation. 
 
KLRI President Han said, “Reg Tech started from financial regulation and now it evolves to predict and response to risks by using big data, AI, and blockchain. I hope that this conference will examine the direction of data-based regulatory innovation and discuss various opinions that can be used to improve regulatory legislation.”
  
Meanwhile, KLRI signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the co-host Gyeongin National University of Education's Legislative Studies Center prior to the conference. At the signing ceremony, the two organizations promised close cooperation in education and educational legislation.
 
KLRI re-structured its organization and re-established the independent Regulatory Legal Research Center in 2023 and has carried out research to realize the ‘New Growth Strategy 4.0 – New Technology, New Daily Life, New Market’ as a business theme.
