KLRI held the 16th Regulatory Innovation Legislation Forum

Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI, President Yeongsoo Han) held the 16th Regulatory Innovation Legislation Forum under the theme of Issues and Challenges on AI Robots on September 26 (Tue.) in International Conference Room of the Korea Federation of Banks Service Building at 1:30 pm.

The Regulatory Innovation Legislative Forum is a venue where experts gather to discuss major legal issues on regulatory innovation. The forum was broadcast live on the KLRI’s YouTube channel. 

The first session was moderated by Jong-cheon Kim, director of the KLRI’s Regulatory Legal Research Center, with having three presenters. The first speaker, Min-sung Kim, researcher at the Supreme Court, explained the legal responsibilities in the area of civil law related to the use of advanced AI robots, focusing on trends in the United States.

The second presenter, Hyo-sung Bae, Research fellow at the said center, presented the regulations and ways of improving cooperative robots. He presented issues and challenges in the aspect of promoting robots by pointing out the issues of applying regulation system of the industrial robot to cooperative robots, the lack of safety standards for portable cooperative robots, and the lack of governance system for promoting cooperative robots. 

The third presenter, Kyu-hak Ahn at Doosan Robotics, made a presentation on the theme of VOC with the current status of the cooperative robot market and cases of customers.

The second session was a discussion session with Emeritus Professor Jong-young Lee at Chung-Ang University as moderator. Active discussion was made with panel discussants of Sang-mi Moon, Manger of Technical Policy Team of Institute of Advanced Engineering, Joon-ho Seo, Director of Innovation Dept. of Korea Association of Robot Industry, Sang-tae Kim, Professor at Soonchunhyang University, Dong-jin Lee, Professor at Seoul National University, Hyun-sook Cha, KLIRI Senior Principal Research Fellow, Min-young Jang, Manager of KLRI Global Legislation Research Team, Joong-geun Sohn, Director of Regulatory Innovation Dept. of Ministry of Government Legislation, and Woong-hwan Cho, Director of Mechanical Robot Aviation Dept. of Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Meanwhile, KLRI established Regulatory Legislative Research Center as a separate independent organization in 2023 and conducts research on regulation after setting up regulatory legislative research as business theme to realize the New Growth 4.0 StrategyNew Technology, New Daily Life, and New Market.
