Laws shape the framework of society. They have deep influence in every walk of life life, from the protection of rights to economic growth. The well well-being of the people and the strength of democracy are governed by laws, and th erefore , a sound legislative proce ss and its practice are crucial for crafting better laws for
society.
This book is the result of joint research contributed by multiple legal scholars from the A sia Legal Information Network (ALIN). This research, in which ALIN member institutions have par ticipated, explorexplores the question of what constitutes good legislative practice by examining the lawmaking process and its
components of 16 Asian countries countries.
Asia is a vibrant continent with diverse countries, each with its own rich history and unique cultur e. The diversity means that their legislative practice may vary, presenting unique solutions as well as different challenges. Recognizing these differences, this book offers an in in-depth analysis of legislative processes and practices across the Asian countries.
Each chapter contains a detailed examination of the selected countries’ lawmaking process, key principles of lawmaking, and legislative practices, which enables readers to understand each respective country ’s legislative culture . It also provides an insightful analysis of both successful and unsuccessful pieces of legislation through case studies, identifying the factors contributing to their success or failure. Furthermore, it explores practical strategies to enhance the quality of legisl ation, as sound legislation requires more than just legal precision.
With the case studies, in -depth analysanalyses, and practical insights by the contributing authors, this book helps readers understand why some laws are successful while others face criticism criticism. In addition, i it highlights the on going efforts of the Asian countries to improve the quality of legislatilegislation.
